How the solar collector works?

Essentially, the sun is an enormous fusion reactor which radiates wide spectrum of energy out into space. It is the infrared radiation which has the ability to warm surfaces it comes in contact with. The darker and less reflective the surface, the more heat energy can be absorbed. Solar collectors is designed to absorbs these type of heat energy from the sun.

During daytime, the solar panel collects solar energy from the sun, which is translated, into useful heats. The heat is transferred into the pipes containing a special fluid. The circulating pump move the heated fluid into heat exchanger coils within the storage tank. This coil heats the water. The pump circulates the fluids between the solar collectors and the storage tank, constantly transferring heats into water.   The storage tank retains heated water ready to be use for the morning shower.   During winter, where the daytime is much shorter than summer: the solar energy is four times less. Supplemental heater is used to provides additional heating. It can either be simple electric element heater or separates fossil fuel boiler.   In any cases, for all seasons, solar energy provides most of the heating, even during cloudy day; they ultimately reduces the energy consumption bills.

Quality of Solar Collectors Products

The performance of the solar panels or collectors depends on manufacture quality, process and technology. We cherry pick solar panels that come with proof of EN12975 certification and manufacture quality control manufacture under ISO:9001.   In fact, EN12975 certification is an important indication towards high quality construction standard and performance measurement results. Some manufactures are reluctance to performs this test due to long test periods (10 month) and high cost.   The picture shown left is a flat plate collector that was damaged by the hailstone test (using steel ball). This panel failed the EN12975 certification.

We have surveyed several solar panel manufactures; few ultra-cheap, uncertified solar collectors are likely to be false economy due to maintenance nightmare, so we avoid them. At one case, a solar panel manufacture that claim EN12975 certification but refuse to supply us a certificate copy for no obvious reason, we consider them untrustworthy dealer, so we avoids them.

Our decision to install solar collector is based on: aesthetics, components quality, economy, reliability and performance, confirmed by independent certification body. We offers two grades products, one for top of the range and other for budget range.

Solar Collectors Installation

Prior to installation for a new construction project or existing building, we offer free project assessment to work out the sizing of the solar collector system that suits family needs, roof orientation and tilt angle (usually 40-60deg), condition of the roof and plumbing works.   The solar collector work best when oriented mostly to the south-east, south or south-west, especially during winter period and tilted roughly 45deg to maximise heat gains during winter.   We have come across an solar collector installation by other installer. It use plastic pipes fitting between solar collectors and tanks. We do not use this pipe materiial this will quickly degrade when handling high temperature solar fluids. We use more expensive copper pipes.

The budget series start from 1750 Euro for small family home and Viessmann series start from 3000 Euro. The price subject to standard assessment results which based on size of the family, type of equipments, works schedule, location and roof mounting arrangement.

The manufcature warranty can range from 5 year to 10 year depending on choice of installation quality and solar panels.

Are there grants for renewable energy systems? Yes! The Bulgaria government wants to encourage the installation of environmentally friendly heating systems and reduces dependency on electricity or fossil fuel resources.

EU considers energy efficiency and conservation as a most economical solution as it is an only way forward to manage energy consumption for the sustainable futures within EU community.
