What is HVAC?

HVAC (pronounced "aitch-vak") is an acronym that stands for "Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning". The HVAC system is also known as climate control system.

This is because these three functions are essential in maintaining comfort in every dwelling. The primary use of HVAC is to regulate

(a) Room temperature, to a comfortable level

(b) Humidity,

(c) Ventilation by a movement of fresh air

Well designed HVAC installation ensures that such elements remain within their acceptable ranges. Effective control of such factors minimizes health-related risks. A very humid atmosphere impairs the body’s ability to regulate body temperature as it prevents the evaporation of sweat. High humidity also decreases physical strength, which usually leads to fatigue. An unhealthy surrounding can also affect people’s thinking abilities. Hypothermia, heat stroke, and hyperpyrexia, among others, are some of the illnesses that may also occur.

What HVAC look like?

HVAC is a network of air ducts made of steel or plastic tube or square ducts. It designed to transfer regulated air into designated room or any part of the building. Below is the illustration example of the HVAC installation.

How it work?

The picture below is a simplified example of a building with HVAC installation: Suppose the outdoor air temperature is about 35°C during hot sunny day and we wish to regulate this into comfortable temperature of 24°C in a most efficiency way:

(a) The air handling unit recycle air via ‘return’ ducts and dispose about 30% (stale airs)

(b) 30% of fresh air is added from outside ducts

(c) The air with dust, bacterial, etc are filtered out, the filter spec depends on local building regulation and standard

(d) The temperature is then regulated by the heat exchanger to about 24°C (the heat exchanger connects to ASHP or GSHP module which provide heating or cooling energy).

(e) The conditioned air is then pushed into ‘supply’ ducts, which maintain comfortable environment

The heat exchanger is connected to various type of heating or chillier, most popular are Air Source Heat Pump. However, Ground Source Heat Pump is becoming more popular due to soaring energy cost.

Uncio technology is a new kind of HVAC solution for any type of residential, commerial or industrial building. It made of small holes or duct strip of diffferent style and colour, it benefits discrete installation up on the ceiling or wall.

Unico System Benefits

One of the most significant benefits of the Unico Heating and Ventilation System is the very even room temperatures which can be rendered from these systems, often offering less than one-degree temperature difference throughout an entire space.

This happens through a process known as aspiration, where air enters a room at a higher velocity than with conventional air systems, and creates a venturi effect where all air in a room begins to gently draw itself toward the entering air, creating very even room temperatures.

Little or No Drafts
Unico systems also guard against drafting, which is a frequent complaint of most office heating and cooling systems. Standard heating and cooling systems often lead to drafts and hot and cold spots but the Unico system as a result of its unique room aspiration avoids these problems.

Freedom of Design
Unico systems can save valuable floor space within a room. Small duct small air handler systems free up 20 percent more floor space than standard radiators.

Better Aesthetics
The Unico outlets are unobtrusive and have been designed to fit in and match with the space they are installed into, creating a much more visually appealing situation than other possible applications. Small duct small air handler systems can have their outlets installed in the floor, ceiling, or in a side wall, allowing for a variety of solutions within a space.

Reduced Noise Levels
Unico systems are extremely quiet. Within a room, the outlets will generate less than 3dab each, far below the British and European standard of 35dab and even less within a standardly sized room.

Improved Air Filtration
Given climactic occurrences, the build up of smog, and the often acrid state of the air the need to provide filtration and ventilation is not only an option, it is often a necessity.

Comment by historic home owner

"We didn't want ducts or registers to damage the aesthetics of our historic home. The Unico System made it possible for us to maintain the aesthetic beauty and enjoy a high-efficiency…"
